Festival of archaeology

Festival of Archaeology

Saturday 16th July to Sunday 31st July 2011

The Festival of British Archaeology is here again with a range of activities for all ages.  From open days to excavation and Roman gladiators, it is your chance to see history in action and learn how to take part.

On Sunday 17th July a day of archaeology will be taking place at Little Stoke Park, Stoke Gifford, which will include demonstrations and displays including geophysics and Medieval Archery.  It is an opportunity to come and learn about how local groups have been researching the history of Bradley Stoke, Filton, Patchway and Stoke Gifford.  You can even bring your own photographs to show what Stoke Gifford and the other parishes used to look like in times gone by.

Excavations will be taking place at Lower Hazel woodland just outside of Thornbury and there will be guided tours of Acton Court.

Yate Heritage Centre will be holding a series of workshops as part of the festival.
