These locations of South Gloucestershire's children's centres meet a number of key criteria set out in government guidance that states: - Children's centres should preferably be situated in areas whether there is evidence of disadvantage as identified by the Office of National Statistics
- Each centre should be able to reach up to 800 pre-school children
- Centres should build on existing provision and must be opened by 1st April 2008 within the budget available
- Centres should contribute to creating accessible services across the whole of the local authority area
In phase 2 of SureStart there is not enough money to cover the whole of South Gloucestershire. The council has therefore had to plan to achieve as much coverage as possible using existing school sites where this is practical. Where the sites of children's centres are not located in the areas of highest need, they will provide outreach services in partnership with other local provision.
