Kingswood Heritage Museum

Celebrating Kingswood's social, industrial, and religious history.

This museum is located in the former William Champion 18th century zinc and brass works, which include an ice house (not open to the public) and a windmill tower. The famous Warmley Grotto is also in the grounds (see below for opening details).

Permanent exhibits include:

  • Coal mining
  • Kleen-e-ze
  • The boot and shoe trade
  • Wesley and non-conformist religion
  • Douglas motorbikes
  • The Dram Road

On the May, spring and August bank holidays, special temporary exhibitions are held.

The museum is accessible to the disabled and a wheelchair is available. You can also buy refreshments, books and other items.

Opening details

  • Closed all January
  • Rest of the year: open Tuesdays 2:00pm – 5:00pm
  • May to September (except January): Sundays 2:00pm - 5:00pm
  • October to April (except January): second Sunday in month: 2:00pm - :00pm and also Tuesday: 2:00pm - 5:00pm
  • Bank Holiday Sundays and Mondays: 11:00am to 5:00pm

Groups and schools can visit at other times by arrangement. Coach parties strictly by appointment only.

Admission: £2. Children under 12 free but must be accompanied by an adult.

The grotto is only open on bank holidays or as part of a guided walk.

Walks

These very popular guided walks around William Champion's 18th century gardens include a visit to the grottos. They take place on the second Sunday of every month (except January) and on bank holidays. The walk takes about one-and-a-half hours and is a gentle stroll along easy footpaths. The cost is £2.00 per person, and the walks start at 2.15pm.
