Choice Advice Service

School Admission Booklets

Is your child starting primary or secondary school?

The Choice Advice Service specialises in giving parents and carers advice, support, help and information relating to children starting reception year in primary school or Year 7 in secondary school.

Starting primary/secondary school can be one of the most difficult times for you and your child. If you are aware or have been told by your child's primary school that you have not filled in a preference form for your child to start school, please get in touch to see how we can help.

The Choice Advice Service will advise parents/carers but will not decide for them or guarantee a place at a particular school. What they can do is offer help, support and impartial advice, based on all the information to hand.

What we can do

We can:

  • Give guidance on how to fill in the necessary forms
  • Give you information about the schools in your area
  • Talk to you about a particular school
  • Explain what will happen when you've made your decision
  • Tell you what can be done if you're not offered the school of your choice

To view information about individual schools in South Gloucestershire and other neighbouring counties please visit 1Big Database and search for schools, see the 'Other websites' section on this page for a link.

We can offer advice over the phone or you can email us with your questions.

We are here to help you, so if you would like to talk about the process of getting your child into a primary or secondary school please contact us:
