Nearly 4000 people die in their home every year from an accident. Avonsafe aims to reduce the number of accidental injuries in the former Avon area. It is a partnership of:
- Health organisations
- Local authorities
- Emergency services
- Voluntary sector agencies
- Private sector agencies
The Injury Prevention Strategy, 2008 – 2013 looks at the importance of reducing inequalities in order to reduce injuries.
Targets
Avonsafe has set targets for injury reduction, in line with the White Paper 'Saving Lives: Our Healthier Nation' targets. These are:
- To reduce the death rate from accidental injury by 20 per cent by 2010
- To reduce the serious injury rate by at least 10 per cent by 2010
