Changes to services for Deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people from June 2008

Against a backdrop of service review, South Gloucestershire Deaf Association (SGDA) based at Frome House in Yate have decided to reduce services from 2 June 2008.  However, a range of groups and social events will continue at the SGDA offices, please contact the SGDA for further details:

From June 2008

Until further notice, Deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people in South Gloucestershire can contact the Council's Adult Care Customer Services about the following issues: 

  • Getting an assessment for equipment to help with deafness or hearing loss such as amplified phones, pager systems or hearing loops
  • Advice about broken equipment 
  • Help with Social Work issues
  • Benefits support and advice.  Staff have lists of organisations who provide help with benefits, all of which can provide BSL interpreters 
  • Helping to adapt to a hearing loss and isolation.  Staff have details of resources such as hard of hearing clubs, audiology service and lip reading classes

Diamond Travelcard

If you are under 60 and have a severe or profound hearing loss you can apply for a Diamond Travelcard which will give you free bus travel.  To apply use the contact details below or go to our Concessionary Travel web page.
