Viewing planning applications - help

Some useful tips on viewing planning applications on-line.

Registering your details

We have added a new facility which allows you to register your details and log on when you visit the site. This will allow you to do the following:

  • Track the progress of planning applications. If when viewing application documents you click on the 'save to case file shortcuts' link, this will save the applications you are interested in to the 'my case file shortcuts' area, so you won't need to search for them each time you visit
  • Create and save on-line planning applications. This will allow you to complete online application forms with full help facilities and then save them, so you can return and add further information and attachments before final submission
  • Automatically complete the comments form. When making comments on current planning applications, you will not need to enter the same personal information each time. It will be entered for you which will save you time
  • Edit your registration details at any time. If any of your details change, it is easy and straightforward to update your record with us

Searching by address

You can search on the street name by using the A - Z search or by typing any part of the address in the street name text box, such as a house or farm name. This will then display a list of applications from which you can pick.

Searching by postcode

You can enter part of a postcode in order to see applications in a wide area. For example, if you enter 'BS15' you will get all scanned applications in the Kingswood area.

Search current applications

If you click on this link, you will be able to view applications received within the last four weeks, and submit comments on them. You are also able to narrow your search by selecting a specific parish of your choice.

Search decided applications

If you click on this link, you will be able to search on and view applications determined by the council over the last 12 months. You are also able to narrow your search by selecting a specific parish on which to search. Please note that these records may be incomplete and as such do not constitute the statutory register of applications and decisions.

Viewing the images

To view the images you will need the latest version of Adobe Acrobat reader, which is available free of charge from their download website accessible from the 'Other wesites' section on the right of this page.

Subscription service

The council also operates a free subscription service which allows you to register and receive email notification of the following services:

  • Planning applications
  • Consultations
  • Council meetings and agendas
  • Scheduled roadworks

Once you register, you can choose up to three wards on which you will be notified of information on any of the services you choose. If you select to be notified on planning applications, you will receive links in the email which will take you directly to the relevant page, so you can view the application details and documents.

How to make comments on planning applications

To make a comment on an application, please click on the application number, then click on the 'comment on the planning application' link which will bring up a simple form to complete. Please include your name and address to enable us to notify you of the outcome in writing once a decision is reached.

Please note that the law requires that any comments made on a planning application are made publicly available, which may include via the council's website.

Please also note that any comments that are anonymous or considered to be not valid planning considerations or which are defamatory, racially or otherwise discriminatory will not be published or taken into consideration.

Some useful tips when commenting on an application:

  • When signing your letter, print your name in capitals below the signature. Before your letter is published on the website the signature will be blanked out
  • If you are submitting personal (medical) or financial information in support of your comments, please indicate clearly at the top of each document whether you are prepared for this information to be made publicly available
  • If you are emailing your comments consider making your comment as a separate attachment  so that this can be published on the website without your email address

Viewing planning decisions

Planning decision notices (if available) can be viewed along with the other application documentation, plans and correspondence on determined applications.
