The Schools Health and Safety Unit provides a number of services to local schools and these are summarised below.
Telephone helpline
The health and safety helpline provides specific health and safety-related advice in addition to or to supplement council policy or guidance. This will be provided verbally in response to a phone call or in writing in response to letter or email.
Training
Training is provided to support council guidance or legislative requirements as summarised in the competency list, see related links. The training available is summarised under the training part of this website. The costs specified are specific to the training.
'Pay As You Go' Services
The Schools Health & Safety Unit can now provide the following 'pay as you go' services that have and are being developed as a response to requests from schools. Please see the 'Read More' section on this page.
Asbestos Management
This service will involve a member of the Schools Health & Safety Unit undertaking the annual check on the condition of Asbestos and then updating the Schools Health & Safety Management Plan.
COSHH Risk Assessment for Schools
This service will involve a member of the Schools Health & Safety Unit undertaking a site specific COSHH Risk Assessment.
Fire Risk Assessment for Schools
This service will involve a member of the Schools Health & Safety Unit undertaking a specific Fire Risk Assessment.
Manual Handling Risk Assessment for Schools
This service will involve a member of the Schools Health & Safety Unit undertaking a site specific Manual Handling Risk Assessment on equipment and materials, but not those involving the movement of persons.
Site Inspection for Schools
This service will involve a member of the Schools Health & Safety Unit undertaking a Site Inspection, preferably in company with staff or governors.
Working at Height Risk Assessment for Schools
This service will involve a member of the Schools Health & Safety Unit undertaking a site specific Working at Height Risk Assessment.
Workplace Risk Assessment for Schools
This service will invovle a member of the Schools Health & Safety Unit undertakinga site specific Workplace Assessment.
