The council believes it is important to consider decisions at a local level and to consider local views in the decision-making process and has established five area forums. An area forum:
- Is comprised of ward councillors for the area
- Is one of the means of consulting the public and reviewing the impact of council policies and services on the area
- Provides an opportunity to involve local residents and others in the community
- Champions local needs and aspirations
- Provides a focus for active public participation
- Gives feedback to the cabinet
