About The Network

The Network is a South Gloucestershire Council secure database with names, addresses and other basic details of disabled children/young people aged 0 -19 years who live in South Gloucestershire. The details on it can only be accessed by authorised council staff and NHS South Gloucestershire staff to send out relevant information to families, to plan appropriate services and consult with parents and disabled children/young people. Signing up to The Network is voluntary but it enables you to receive mail outs such as details of holiday activities, playschemes and information about service developments.

What will the Council and NHS South Gloucestershire use the information for?

We will use the information to;

  • ask parents and carers to help us plan the development of services for disabled children/young people (for example it will help us to develop appropriate services, in places where they are most needed);
  • consult parents/carers on plans for new services;
  • keep parents/carers informed of new services as they become available;

From time to time information on the number of disabled children/young people and where they live may be published. However, no information that could be used to identify you, or your child/young person, will be made public, and the information held by The Network will be treated as strictly confidential.

If you wish to know more about this, please contact the Information Assistant, Child Health & Disability Team on 01454 866163.

How can I find out more about the Network?

If you would like further information on The Network, please contact the Child Health & Disability Team, Children & Young People’s Department, Tel: (01454) 866163.  If you want to complete an application form to join please see the 'Do it now' section on this page.

The Network is for disabled children/young people who live in South Gloucestershire.

Disabled children/young people who live in other authorities should be registered with the local authority in which they live. The Network fulfils the authority’s duty (required by The Children Act 1989) to hold a register of disabled children/young people. This registration process is not linked to any registration for other services, such as welfare benefits, or a Blue Badge.

What happens when my child reaches 18 years old?

Your child’s name and details will be removed from The Network. Details of the process for registering disabled adults can be obtained from the Customer Services Desk for the Community Care and Housing Department on 01454 868007.

Can I see my child’s details that are held on The Network?

A copy of the details held on The Network for your child will be sent to you on receipt of a written request to the Information Assistant, Department for Children and Young People, Child Health and Disability Team, The Heath Resource Centre, 2a Newton Road, Cadbury Heath, South Gloucestershire, BS30 8EZ.

How do I remove my child’s details from The Network?

You can remove your child’s details whenever you like by writing to the Child Health & Disability Team, address above.

What will happen if I decide not to join The Network?

If you decide not to join The Network your rights to services will not be affected in any way. If having joined The Network you decide that you no longer wish your child’s details to be included on it , they will be removed at your request.
