South Gloucestershire Council is a designated Centre of Excellence for the quality of its transport work and is currently the second-highest rated transport authority in the country. To ensure a consistent approach to transport in the region we have worked with neighbouring councils - Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol City and North Somerset, to produce a joint local transport plan for the period from 2006 – 2011.
As an example of our success, there are 1000 fewer cars per day on the local network - equivalent to 40 full buses in each direction. By analysing the information from road accidents we have halved the number of pedestrian casualties in the last 5 years.
Improving transport is one of the council's key corporate objectives and we take pride in the fact that we have made significant strides in recent years towards the development of a safe, clean and sustainable transport system.
