South Gloucestershire Junior School the Ridge ended their ESFA U11 Girl’s Cup final run in style picking up joint third place in a 0-0 draw ahead of the England versus Scotland schoolboy game at the home of English football.
Their road to Wembley began at Yate Outdoor Sports Complex (YOSC) in the South Gloucestershire round of the competition and continued through the regional stages before the semi-finals at Watford FC’s training ground where they lost narrowly on penalties after the game ended 0-0.
Teacher Jane Mewse was pleased with the effort of the girls and the achievement of not conceding a goal despite not winning the tournament.
She said: "It's a shame that the Friday tournament went to penalties, it's a horrible way to lose."
The achievement is made all the greater by the fact that the girl’s only entered the competition as a bit of fun without any aspirations of progressing beyond the initial stages.
