Participation opportunities for young people

South Gloucestershire Council has a team of workers dedicated to providing opportunities for young people to be involved in shaping their future.

Examples of the work young people (are and) have been involved with are;

  • Being involved in recruitment for example, sitting on interview panels
  • Attending meetings to give their views on decisions that affect their lives in local areas or South Gloucestershire wide strategies.
  • Consultation events where young people are consulted on future policies
  • Events which are organised and run by young people for young people
  • Training opportunities; for example, being trained to run sessions for adults on Children’s rights
  • Running workshops for adults on issues for example, involving young people in Council meetings
  • Sitting on decision making panels for example, ‘The Big Stash’ (Youth Opportunities Funding)
  • Representing South Gloucestershire young people throughout the UK by involvement with the Youth Parliament and the Youth Forum
  • Projects that affect young people such as Cyber-Bullying and Sex and Relationships Education (gathering information and producing young people friendly resourced)
