A conservation area is an area of ‘special architectural or historic interest, the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance’. Trees form a part of this as they make an important contribution to a conservation area's special character, its makeup and its surroundings.
Trees within Conservation Areas also need consent for any works to them, whether or not they have a TPO. South Gloucestershire Council will consider the contribution a tree makes to the character of an area.
The penalty for undertaking work to a tree in a Conservation Area is the same as for a tree with a Preservation Order (TPO).
If you want to carry out works to a tree in a conservation area, regardless of whether it has a TPO, you can apply by completing the form Work to Trees under Other websites on the right.
