Christine (62) joined Exercise on Prescription – a scheme which provides a range of activities at a reduced cost for patients referred by medical professionals - as she was suffering from ME, was asthmatic and generally unfit. As she was often in a great deal of pain due to her ME her mood had become very low.
Christine started exercising very gently in the gym twice each week and came on the weekly walks (Walkfit). Her fitness level began to improve greatly and her energy levels were increased. She found she was able to do more than she thought she would which gave her confidence a boost and she now does a senior mobility class as well. She has become friendly with another lady in the group with whom she goes walking regularly. She is much happier now as she is able to do more in her day to day life and she has recently set herself a new goal to run The Race for Life next year!
When Christine had her initial assessment she weighed 107kg, her BMI (Body Mass Index) was 40.8, her waist 122cm and hips 150cm. After twelve weeks her weight was down to 101kg, BMI 38.6 waist 114cm and hips were 139cm. Since then she has continued to lose weight and is still doing four exercise sessions each week. She has made physical activity part of her life now as she knows it is essential for her health and wellbeing.
