The South Gloucestershire Children and Young People Workforce Strategy is critical to improving the lives of children and young people by ensuring that:
- all children and young people's organisations and services work together so that the child or young person is at the centre of all services;
- people working with children and young people are competent, confident and safe to so do;
people aspire to be part of this workforce and want to remain part of it; - are able to develop their skills and build satisfying and rewarding careers;
- parents, carers, children and young people trust and respect people working with them.
The Children’s Workforce Strategy for 2010-2012 has therefore been developed to address the needs of all sectors providing services for the children’s workforce of the future. The Children’s Workforce Strategy has been completed and agreed by the Children’s Trust Partnership. Consultation on the draft strategy was carried out with both public and partners for 12 weeks between March and June 2010. Responses to the consultation unanimously agreed with the vision and scope of the strategy, which included safeguarding, the need to develop and grow inspirational leaders as well as strengthening, coordinating and evaluating workforce development. Concern was expressed, through the consultation, of ensuring the involvement of voluntary organisations and we certainly recognise they are an important element of the contemporary children’s workforce.
Work is currently being undertaken on developing the implementation plan to drive forward the changes needed for the children's workforce of the future.
