Frenchay Conservation Area was designated as a conservation area in 1975. Part of the north and west of the River Frome was designated a conservation area by the former Northavon District Council on 30th July 1975. The remainder to the south and east of the river was designated on 13th August 1975 by the former Kingswood District Council. The area is now wholly within South Gloucestershire.
Frenchay Conservation Area Supplementary Planning Document
A supplementary planning document (SPD) has been produced for the Frenchay Conservation Area and is intended to supplement the policies of the South Gloucestershire Local Plan.
The purpose of the leaflet is to provide guidance and to highlight the important features that give the conservation area its special character and which should be protected and enhanced. The leaflet and enhancement strategy incorporates many of the issues previously highlighted by local people.
Consultation results
Consultation on a draft leaflet took place in May and June 2006. Many comments were received from local residents – mostly in support, although some raised concerns regarding traffic issues, the hospital and the need to protect green spaces and the character of traditional buildings. For further details see the report on consultation below.
The results of the consultation exercise were reported to the executive councillor and the leaflet and strategy amended following consideration of the comments received. The leaflet was adopted as a supplementary planning document (SPD) on 19th March 2007.
Copies of the Frenchay Conservation Area SPD and accompanying sustainability appraisal can be viewed below or obtained from the council by telephoning 01454 868004.
