The Sports Awards recognise the achievement, dedication and contribution of local people across sports in South Gloucestershire. The awards are an opportunity to acknowledge the successes of those involved in sport through local clubs, communities and schools.
BBC Radio Bristol's Geoff Twentyman presented the Awards at a prestigious ceremony held at the BAWA club, Filton.
The top 3 nominees and two guests were invited to attend the ceremony along with the person who nominated them.

South Gloucestershire Chair's Community Awards
The Chair’s Community Awards recognise and celebrate the valuable contribution local unpaid volunteers make to life in South Gloucestershire. Each year people are asked to nominate their local ‘community heroes’- people who have made a difference to their community. There are a number of categories including development, equalities, arts, sports, working with older and younger people community safety and neighbourliness.
Some of the nominations reveal fascinating and moving stories that capture public and media interest. The winners attend a prestigious awards evening to receive their awards.
The Chair of Councillors, Mike Drew is continuing with the award scheme during her year of office and nomination information will be available from November 2011.
Criteria
The nominated person must satisfy most of the following criteria in order to be considered for an Award:-
Service
1. Making their contribution as a volunteer (without pay other than out of pocket expenses) for the benefit of residents in South Gloucestershire.
2. Or if the person has received payment for their work, they must have shown additional voluntary effort and dedication well beyond that expected from their employment. This additional work needs to be made clear on the form.
