Food safety for businesses

A market stall

The Food and Health Team are responsible for making sure that almost 2000 food businesses in South Gloucestershire comply with food safety and standards legislation. The businesses include restaurants, takeaways, pubs, hotels, food manufacturers, shops, supermarkets, work canteens, home and outdoor caterers.

All food businesses are regularly inspected for both food safety and standards. We also check that the labelling and composition of foods is accurate. As well as inspections we give technical advice to existing and prospective food business owners and those planning to start businesses in the area. We always try to help businesses reach the required standards.

We produce newsletters (these can be downloaded from this page), have training videos that can be borrowed free of charge, run training seminars on new legislation and can carry out advice visits when requested.
