The Learning and School Effectiveness Service is a team of specialist managers, advisers and consultants who provide support and challenge to schools and early years settings in order to raise pupil achievement.

The service comprises the following teams:

  • Early years and primary
  • Secondary
  • Music service
  • Governor support

In addition to these teams there are colleagues who work across the service taking a lead in the following areas:

  • Extended schools
  • Play strategy
  • Leadership, management and governance
  • Inclusion
  • School physical education (PE) and sport strategy
  • Health education
  • Support staff
  • Professional development

The team promotes effective learning in schools and early years settings for both staff, children and young people. The majority of our work is channelled through a range of nationally and locally-agreed strategies which include monitoring, support, intervention and challenge in order to raise the quality of teaching and learning, leadership, management and governance in early years settings and schools within the authority. Where necessary the service takes action to secure improvement through the identification, dissemination and promotion of good practice.
