South Gloucestershire Community Conversation Group

Many people who are recovering from a stroke feel isolated and frustrated that their speech has been affected and they are unable to communicate as they used to.  It can be a lonely and isolating experience.

Our community based conversation groups help people with communication difficulties following a stroke regain their confidence in using their speech in everyday social situations.  We meet once a week, in Thornbury, Yate and Kingswood in small groups, to talk about a wide range of topics from current affairs, the latest "gossip", to group members' interests.

The social side of the group is key, with memebers able to share experiences at their own pace, in a supportive environment while making new friends and having fun.

"Mum is really enjoying coming to the group and thinks it is really helping her."

It's great to be able to given the time I need to talk rather than feel I am unable to keep up with conversations."

Anyone with communication difficulties following a stroke is welcome, as well as carers/relatives who feel they would like to support their loved ones by attending.

The groups run at the following venues:

Thornbury, Turnberries Centre: Wednesday, 1.45pm - 2.45pm

Yate, Leisure Centre: Thursday, 10.45am - 12.15pm

Kingswood, The Park Centre: Thursday, 1.45pm - 3.15pm
