Success Stories

There are some fantastic sponsorship opportunities available to businesses interested in helping South Gloucestershire stay a great place to live and work.

Sponsorship benefits the community…because it allows the council to offer more events and activities for residents.

And it could benefit your business…by showing your support for South Gloucestershire’s communities and raising your company’s profile locally.

The council already works with many local companies. Here are just a few of our success stories:

Active Card

Active “An Active mind in an Active body”.

Active is a highly successful partnership between South Gloucestershire Council, South Gloucestershire Leisure Trust and NHS South Gloucestershire.

The aim of the Active partnership is to offer local residents information on and easy access to leisure and cultural activities across South Gloucestershire. By keeping people up to date on events and activities we will enable more people to be more active, more often.

Community Awards

The South Gloucestershire Community Awards is a high profile annual event that recognises the dedication and contribution that unpaid volunteers make to our communities. Each year people are asked to nominate their local ‘community heroes’ – people who have made a difference to their community. Nominations are invited in the categories of community development, equalities, arts, sports, working with older and younger people, community safety and neighbourliness.

Winners are invited to a prestigious awards evening to’ officially’ thank them for the contribution of their work in their community.

Since its inaugural year in 2003, more than 200 awards have been given to local volunteers, many of whom have dedicated their lives to helping others.

The nominations reveal fascinating and moving stories that capture public and media interest and benefit the community relations of sponsors through their association with the social contributions that volunteering makes.

Engage Festival

Bringing our Communities together
South Gloucestershire is home to a vibrant range of communities, each with their own unique customs and cultures, celebrations and history.

Engage is a multicultural festival that showcases the variety of people and cultures that live and work in South Gloucestershire. The Engage Festival brings the whole community together in a celebration of colours and sounds, tastes and experiences, drawing the community together in one extravagant celebration of community and cultures.

More than 250 performers come together to participate in a variety of exciting live performances, youth and environmental activities, interactive information stalls, and an impressive feast of Indian, Mediterranean, Chinese and British food.

Drawing more than 4,000 visitors each year from around the world, the Engage Festival is a dynamic and colourful celebration of music, dance, drama, food and workshops. In showcasing the many talented musicians, singers, dancers, cookery and crafts of the area, Engage promotes a truly unique identity for our communities, reflecting the many cultures living here, helping develop a greater appreciation of the different cultural and ethnic groups in South Gloucestershire.

Festival of Youth Sport

South Gloucestershire Council in partnership with Airbus
Since 2001, Airbus has been supporting the Festival of Youth Sport. The Festival gives young people the opportunity to learn new skills and improve their self confidence by accessing first rate sports coaching. So far almost 25,000 young people in South Gloucestershire have participated in this exciting initiative.

The Festival of Youth Sport has been so successful that it has won an impressive array of awards, including winners of the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management (ISRM) (Education Award), (2008) winners of two Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) Pride Awards; one for best event and one for community relations and, more recently finalists in the MJ Achievement Awards. This success could not have been achieved without the support of Airbus, both financially and in the commitment of their staff for their continued support of the Festival.

Following this success, Airbus and South Gloucestershire Council are establishing a partnership agreement that will secure funding for the Festival up to 2012 and beyond.

Whilst winning awards for our partnership work is rewarding, what is really important is the impact of the Festival on the local community, The Festival of Youth Sport gives young people the opportunity to participate in a day of sporting celebration, demonstrating the skills and qualities they have developed through their involvement in the Festival.

Food Festival

The ‘Eat Well Live Well’ Festival of Food and Health combined entertainment, activities and information to encourage local residents to pursue healthy lifestyle choices. This family friendly event brought together cookery demonstrations, food and sport taster sessions, family activities and a local food produce market.

As a result the events, and sponsors, were able to reach a wide audience, helping to embed a healthy lifestyle message in the community. The currency of the theme ensured a high level of media coverage. The diversity of the event’s programme ensured many opportunities for creative sponsorship including activities, competitions and branding of venues and publicity
materials.
