Going to school regularly is important to your child's future.  For example, children who miss school frequently can fall behind with their work and do less well in exams.

Regular and punctual school attendance helps a young person to:
  • Learn
  • Be safe
  • Be healthy
  • Enjoy and Achieve
  • Improve chances for economic well being and work
  • Make a positive contribution in the school and local community
  • Make and keep friendships
  • Establish good habits regarding attendance and punctuality
  • Maximise choices and obtain positive outcomes
Irregular school attendance and poor punctuality may lead a young person to:
  • Be at risk in the community
  • Learn less
  • Be less safe
  • Enjoy and Achieve less
  • Reduce chances for economic well being and work
  • Make a negative contribution in the school and local community
  • Be at risk of being drawn into criminal or anti-social activity
  • Increase the chance of parents or carers being prosecuted (fine up to £2,500 per parent per child and/or up to three months in prison)
