Keynsham Canal Bridge

When did work start?

The work is started on 27th May

How long will the scheme take?

The bridge strengthening was expected to take approximately 16 weeks. However, there has been a delay in completing the works because the replacement parapet fencing needed to be redesigned to ensure it could be erected on the bridge without any on site alterations. The works should be complete in November.

What will be the affect on traffic?

Whilst work was taking place temporary traffic lights were installed on the A4175 allowing alternate one way traffic across the bridge. This caused some traffic delays.

We had planned to close the bridge for 4 or 5 weekends to carry out certain work items. However the contractor found ways of completing those works without closing the road. This ensured traffic disruption was minimised.

Access to the Lock Keeper Public House remained unaffected throughout the duration of the bridge repair works.

Will bus services be affected?

Bus services will continue as normal.

Cyclists and pedestrians can use the bridge at all times

Why was work needed on the bridge?

To ensure that the bridge remained safe for use
