Car-sharing

Car-sharing is when two or more people travel together in the same car for all or part of the trip.

What are the benefits for me?

  • Saving money - some people save up to £1000 per year
  • Pride (at reducing your impact on the environment)
  • Meeting new people - find a match via the free car sharing database 2CarShare.com
  • Saving time - you can save up to 10 minutes if you use the 2+ lanes
  • Giving employees and employers increased transport options

Where can I get more information?

Visit the website 2CarShare.com - a dedicated car-sharing website, designed to help car commuters find a match within Greater Bristol.

This is a free-of-charge service provided in partnership by South Gloucestershire, Bristol City, Bath and North East Somerset and North Somerset councils with liftshare.com, the largest national car-sharing scheme.

Travel plans and car sharing

Car-sharing is one of a number of practical measures that can be promoted as part of an organisation's travel plan. Employers can:

  • Help staff find a car-share partner by linking up to 2CarShare.com
  • Provide priority car-share parking bays. The council will supply 2+ signs free of charge
  • Provide a guaranteed taxi ride home for car sharers
  • Host a 'green travel roadshow' to raise awareness of car-sharing
  • Provide incentives for car sharers, such as financial rewards or free car maintenance services
