Donations sought for charity auction

14 October 2008

Councillors and staff at South Gloucestershire Council will be logging on to an auction site next month (November) to help raise much needed cash for a breast cancer charity.

Every year the Chair of the Council organises the fundraising event, with proceeds going to his or her chosen good cause.

This year the Breast-cancer Unit Support Trust (BUST) will benefit. This local registered charity raises funds to support the work of the Breast Care Centre at Frenchay Hospital, which caters for thousands of women patients and a significant number of male patients each year. BUST helps to supply the latest technology in order to help in the prevention, early detection and better treatment for patients with breast cancer.

Donations for prizes so far include a dinner for two, complimentary tickets to see a Gloucester County Cricket match, gym membership and family day out tickets.

But Councillor Brian Freeguard, Chairman of the Council, is hoping more prizes will be offered to support the event.

He said: “I would truly welcome additional items to be used for our intranet auction. All the proceeds raised will be directed to my chosen charity, BUST, which is a most worthy local cause. Several companies and retail outlets have already supported our appeal for goods, but there are many more which might be tempted to do so.”

The five-week auction is due to start on 17 November. Individuals or businesses who wish to donate or contribute in some way should contact Liz Smith, civic/member support officer, on 01454 863012.
