Sports makers

What is Sport Makers:

Sports Makers is a key element of Sport England’s ‘Places People Play’ legacy programme. The programme will use the inspirational pull of London 2012 to recruit, train and deploy 40,000 new sports volunteers aged 16 years and over to make sport happen across the country.

These leaders will organise and support hundreds of new hours of grassroots sport for adults (16+), creating new opportunities across the country. The Leaders will bring the Olympic and Paralympic values to life in every community and will be a highly tangible element of the London 2012 legacy.

As part of the programme each Leader will be invited to a workshop, where they will receive a high quality, inspirational Leadership learning programme that embeds the Olympic and Paralympic values. During the workshop the Leader will be matched to a volunteer placement.

Who can be a Sport Maker:

Sport Makers must be 16 years and over and must be new to volunteering in sport.

Volunteer Placements:

Each volunteer will initially complete 10 hours in a volunteer placement and hopefully a lot more.

Volunteers can choose from a various list of roles including;

leading activities, coaching, officiating, committee roles, events, manager and coordinator roles. These can be as formal or informal as you like, you may just wish just to encourage your friends to get active.

At each workshop there will be a menu of opportunities or you can come with your own placement.
Benefits for the Sport Maker:

This is a chance for volunteers to get involved in the London 2012 Games legacy programme at a local level, and a great time to get inspire people to get involved in sport. Volunteers will receive a t-shirt and drawstring bag.
