The council has a key role in monitoring the performance of the health service in the area. This task is carried out by the Joint Health Scrutiny Committee.
We have been part of a committee with Bristol City Council and Bath and North East Somerset Council considering proposals for services provided at Keynsham Hospital and the future use of the site. The committee has produced its final report and a positive response has been received from the local NHS boards. Details can be found on Bristol City Council's website. We have also been involved with Bristol City Council and North Somerset Council considering the proposals contained in the Bristol Health Services Plan and the Mental Health Transformation Project. Final reports were submitted to the relevant NHS trusts in 2005 and the committee now meets on an ongoing basis to receive update reports.
