Housing Plan for people with learning difficulties

This year we are reviewing our ‘Housing Strategy for people with learning difficulties 2003-2008’. The strategy has largely been achieved and is coming to the end of its life.

The main objectives of the Strategy are to develop:

  • A range of housing options to enable people with learning difficulties to have real choice in where they live
  • A clear housing access plan which helps support people with learning difficulties to live more independently
  • A better understanding and develop a more integrated approach to meeting the housing and support needs of people with learning difficulties

We have been consulting with various groups and seeking views and contributions to developing the new strategy.

To start this process the project team sent a questionnaire to service users and their families to identify the issues and any gaps. This is also in the 'read more' section on this page.

5 themes have been identified as a result of feedback from service users, carers and stakeholders in the lead up to formal consultation.

  • Listening
  • Having the right housing and support choices
  • Access to information
  • Being part of the community
  • Working closely with housing and support providers

The formal consultation period runs from the 1st October – 31st December.
The aim of the consultation exercise is to seek the views of the people of South Gloucestershire. We want to find out whether these priorities accurately reflect their thoughts, or whether there are other issues which we need to take account of.   You can tell us what you think on line by clicking into the 'Have your say' box on this page.

A consultation document “Housing Plan for people with learning difficulties 2009-2014’ has been published, and is available from the address below and in the read more section.
