Festival of Youth Sport (FOYS)

Festival of Youth Sport

South Gloucestershire Council in partnership with Airbus

2010 marks the ninth year of the Festival of Youth Sport.

Over the last eight years this Award Winning Event has supported 24,991 young people through sports coaching in local schools and almost 7,788 have gone onto participate in the festival tournaments. With 93% of South Gloucestershire infants, primary and junior schools entering.

The festivals are a major sports participation programme held every year, open to all schools in South Gloucestershire. Each festival is a day of celebration when local young people are able to demonstrate and enjoy the skills and qualities that have developed by sports coaching.

The festival aims to:

  • give children a memorable and enjoyable experience of sport
  • encourage and establish links between sports clubs and schools
  • raise the profile of local sport and sporting opportunities
  • build a team of local qualified coaches to work in schools
  • support and develop young people as officials, coaches, organisers and volunteers
  • identify talented children for the future
  • enable a local company to support its community
