When fishing, please protect our environment by taking your litter home with you. A little consideration helps to preserve the beauty of our open spaces for everyone to enjoy. Please dispose of fishing tackle responsibly, as otherwise it can be dangerous to wildlife.
Fishing licences
Any angler aged 12 years or over who fishes for salmon, trout, freshwater fish or eels in England and Wales is required by law to have a rod licence from the Environment Agency. If you do not have the right licence, you could be fined up to £2,500.
Please note that rod licences are not the same as permits, which give you permission to fish a particular water and are issued by fishery owners.
You can buy a rod licence from the Environment Agency (on-line or by phone) or from any post office in England and Wales.
Brimsham Lake
Brimsham Lake is off Coopers Drive, Brimsham Park, North Yate).
You may fish on the public lake at Brimsham Park if you have a valid rod fishing licence. The seasons runs from 1st August to mid-March.
Brimsham Lake is a breeding habitat for swans. Ducks and swans are particularly vulnerable to harm from carelessly discarded fishing tackle, so please help us protect them. Take your fishing tackle home with you and if you spot any discarded fishing tackle, please pick it up and dispose of it responsibly.
Health warning
We do not allow swimming in public lakes for health and safety reasons. Anyone who bathes in a lake does so at their own risk. As well as the risk of drowning, there is a risk of disease such as Leptospirosis or Weil's disease, which is spread by water contaminated with the urine of rats. Get medical advice immediately if you think you may have contracted Weil's disease. Further information on Weil's disease is available on the NHS Direct website. Please use the link on the right.
