RECYCLE YOUR YELLOW PAGES
South Gloucestershire schools are once again signing up to the Yellow Woods Challenge, competing to collect the most old Yellow Pages. The Challenge aims to recycle Yellow Pages directories, saving them from being buried in landfill sites, whilst educating school children about the importance of recycling and conservation.
This year's Yellow Woods Challenge is due to start on Monday 22nd September and run until Friday 24th October. This is the sixth year this scheme is being run in South Gloucestershire.
Participating schools will be asking pupils to bring in old Yellow Pages directories from home to assist the school in being in for a chance to win cash prizes.
If members of the public have neighbours/friends with children then the Yellow Pages directory can be given to a parent for Yellow Woods Challenge – children at participating schools can take them in to their school. The school with the most Yellow Pages per pupil will be in the running to win one of three cash prizes.
An extra cash prize is available for best newcomer, to encourage schools who previously haven’t participated to join in.
There is also a national sculpture competition with the potential to win £1000 for the best piece of artwork.
For information about which schools are competing in this year's Yellow Woods Challenge, please either telephone or e-mai the StreetCare Helpdesk - see contact information opposite.
For those residents who do not have children at schools, arrangements have been made for residents to deposit old Yellow Pages at our SORT IT!* Centres in Yate, Thornbury and Mangotsfield.
The Yellow Pages will be collected from schools by SITA who has arranged for the directories to be recycled in Gloucestershire where they will be made into notice boards.
