Essential clothing grants for school pupils

The Education Welfare Service holds a small amount of money to be used for pupils within South Gloucestershire who are in financial difficulty.

We only have a small amount of money for these grants. We have therefore had to enforce strict criteria for the allocation of clothing grants and school uniforms.

The criteria are:

  • The applicant must be in receipt of income support or
  • In receipt of Income-Based Jobseekers Allowance (IBJSA) or
  • In receipt of support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act of 1999 or
  • In receipt of child tax credit, provided you are not entitled to working tax credit and have an annual income as assessed by the Inland Revenue that does not exceed £15,575

In addition one of the following must also apply:

  • There has been a fire, theft or flood
  • Homeless families - for example parent leaving home due to domestic violence
  • Medical condition - for example obesity, extreme growth, children with enuresis or soiling problems
  • Bereavement - loss of a parent
  • Conditions of extreme poverty - such as situations where families are at risk of being made homeless, suffering high debts etc.
  • Reconstituted families - like where a child returns to live with one parent and financial difficulties arise (child may arrive with no clothing)
