Sustainability Appraisal

The Sustainability Appraisal (SA) process is a way of ensuring that a planning policy document is compatible with the aims of sustainable development. The SA Scoping Report was approved by the Council in March 2008 and forms the basis for all Sustainability Appraisals that will be conducted on the Council's planning policy documents.

The Core Strategy SA Report provides information on how the locations for development proposed in the Core Strategy have been appraised and chosen. An Initial SA Report accompanied the Issues and Options document. However, please note that the information contained within it reflected the emerging proposals in the Government's Regional Spatial Strategy at the time.

The Council produced the SA Report to accompany the Pre-Submission Publication Draft Core Strategy. This Report was then updated to reflect the Proposed Changes published in December 2010.

The various SA documents referred to are available in the 'Read more' box on the right of the screen.
