It is often necessary for trenches to be dug in order to feed utilities such as electricity, gas and water to your homes or to carry out maintenance on existing services. Due to limited space, below ground utilities are often installed close to tree roots.
Tree roots take up water and vital nutrients to the leaves of the tree and act as an anchor to keep the tree upright.
Damage to the roots can be detrimental to the health of the tree but can be avoided if the contractors follow industry best practice guidelines.
You can help by reporting any open trenches where damaged tree roots are visible.
