Get council news direct

01 July 2009

You can now get South Gloucestershire Council news delivered direct to your computer.

The council has started to post news updates on the social networking service Twitter, to give residents another way of keeping in touch with their council.

Councillor John Godwin, executive member for external affairs and partnership, said: “It’s really important to us that our residents know how their council tax is being spent and what their council is doing so we’re always keen to find new communication channels.

"We’re using Twitter in addition to our normal communication channels – things like the website, South Gloucestershire News and our work with local media.

“There’s no cost to the council or Twitter users but it gives us the opportunity to alert users to any important events and late-breaking news. Residents can also make their views known by responding to what we post on the site.”

Twitter is free to use and it’s easy to join. Simply go to twitter.com and follow the instructions. Then, when you’ve set up your account, search for ‘sgcnews’ and select ‘follow’.
