Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. Whenever you buy a product bearing the Fairtrade Foundation's FAIRTRADE Mark you know that the producers have received a fair, stable price for their produce, with an extra ‘social premium’ to invest in their local communities. There are now more than 2,000 products carrying the FAIRTRADE mark.
The Council has, together with South Gloucestershire Fairtrade Network and the Co-operative Group, produced a Fairtrade Directory to showcase the huge range of Fairtrade products now on offer and make it easier for consumers in South Gloucestershire to track down Fairtrade options. It is available to pick up completely free from council and local Fairtrade outlets or can be downloaded from the read more section on the right.
South Gloucestershire Council has also been working hard to promote fairtrade products across its catering service and outlets and is continuing to support schools to promote fairtrade.
