This is guidance for teachers on supply teaching within South Gloucestershire Council.
Schools in South Gloucestershire make their own supply teacher arrangements by either using a supply agency (example eteach) or recruiting and making private supply arrangements directly with supply teachers.
To register as a supply teacher with South Gloucestershire Council you will first need to be ‘sponsored by a school'; this means the school will take responsibility for carrying out all relevant accreditation checks.
This means contacting directly those schools where you are most interested in doing supply teaching and enquiring if they will recruit you to their supply list by carrying out full accreditation checks.
Accreditation checks will involve the completion of:-
• Teacher Application form
• Equalities monitoring form
• Medical Questionnaire
• Method of Pay form
• Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks (CRB Application)
(Schools may ask you to pay for the CRB clearance, £36, from 6th April 2006)
• References
• General Teaching Council (GTC) checks
• Qualification checks
• Salary assessment
Once you have been ‘sponsored’ i.e. had full employment checks carried out and been fully set up on the South Gloucestershire payroll system, you will then receive confirmation in writing that you have been fully accredited to work as a supply teacher with South Gloucestershire Council. This will then enable you to approach any School in South Gloucestershire about doing supply teaching.
Please note all supply teaching arrangements should be made directly with the school.
Please note all supply teachers must be registered with the General Teaching Council (GTC); checks will be made to verify this.
N.B. You must not undertake supply teaching with South Gloucestershire until you have received confirmation that all the above checks have been completed.
DCSF guidance with regards to criminal record checks states that a break in service of one term or more (3/4 months) will require a new Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Disclosure to be undertaken. Supply Teachers records will be checked to ensure Teachers are working on a regular basis. If you have not worked in 6 months your records will be archived and any further work would require registration commencing again.
