Applications to the access service for Floating Support can be made by post, fax or email. It may be necessary to gather more information from the applicant or people that the applicant has given permission to contact. People who may be contacted are:
- Doctors or other health staff
- Housing officers/landlords
- Community Care staff
- Friends or relatives
- Anyone else the applicant have given us permission to contact
Applications will be processed for suitability against the Supporting People criteria. The criteria can be read or downloaded from the 'Read more' section on this page.
The applicant will receive a response from the access service within 3-5 working days of receipt of the application. Completed applications will be referred to the most appropriate support agency. A list of support providers can be read or downloaded from the 'Read more' section on this page.
The access service will inform the applicant if there is a waiting list for referral to a suitable support provider and they will give an estimate of the time it might take to be referred on.
Applicants will be informed of the date and the name of the support agency they have been referred to, the likely timescale for contact by the support provider and what to do if this does not happen.
Consideration will be given to the fact that some applicants might request support from a named support provider. Equally some applicants may not wish to receive a service from some support providers. The access service will look at the reasons for this to determine if it is reasonable. Where possible, the request will be met.
Applications which are not suitable for Floating Support may be referred to a more suitable service like Community Care or signposted to other services for advice.
