Great Stoke Way in Filton
Scheme in progress
At Great Stoke Way, Filton, the road is being widened to accommodate a new bus lane, the number of lanes for general traffic will not be reduced. An additional left turn lane will also be available for general traffic on the approach to the Abbey Wood roundabout. The pedestrian crossing is being relocated closer to the new bus stop, just outside Sainsburys, to improve pedestrian access. It is estimated that the work will be completed in September 2010. The works will be phased to avoid the peak traffic flow periods, but some delays may be experienced.
Cribbs Causeway
Scheme in progress
Work has started to construct an additional bus lane on Lysander Road, Cribbs Causeway. A new southbound bus lane will be constructed on Lysander Road, between the Pegasus Road and Merlin Road junctions. Lysander Road serves the shops and facilities at Cribbs Causeway. This route is often congested resulting in considerable delays to bus services.
The existing carriageway will be widened to accommodate the new bus lane so no general traffic lanes will be lost.
To minimise disruption during the works, traffic will be reduced down to one lane southbound between Monday and Friday night. At weekends both lanes will remain open.
Construction is expected to last for 18 weeks. There will be a break in construction over the busy Christmas period to prevent traffic delays. Any outstanding works on the project will be completed early in the New Year after the busy Christmas period.
A38 Gloucester Road and Aztec West roundabout
Scheme in progress
A part-time new bus lane is currently being installed on part of the A38 (Gloucester Road). The bus lane will be installed on the northbound of the A38 (Gloucester Road) in two sections from the Little Stoke junction to the Aztec West roundabout, and will enable buses to avoid northbound traffic queues during the rush hour.
The first section will run from the Little Stoke junction to Hempton Lane. It will replace the service lane and run alongside the two existing lanes for motorists. The second section will run from Hempton Lane to the Aztec West roundabout. It will be an entirely new lane alongside the existing ones for motorists.
Work for the entire scheme is expected to continue until Autumn 2010. The current road works on the Aztec West roundabout are expected to last until mid-May 2010.
An additional lane for general traffic will be installed on the Aztec West roundabout to provide additional capacity for traffic heading right towards Bradley Stoke Way or Woodlands Lane.
A public consultation was held on the proposed scheme during September – October 2009 and the scheme was altered to reflect the feedback received from residents, such as the introduction of the operating hours.
Taxis, motorcycles and cyclists will also be able to use the new bus lane.
Also as part of the scheme the pedestrian crossing on the approach to the Aztec West roundabout will be improved to include facilities for cyclists.
The bus stop on the northbound approach to the roundabout will be moved nearer the business park pedestrian entrance.
A new cycle lane will be installed on the southbound section of the A38 (Gloucester Road) from the Aztec West roundabout to Manor Grove, including improved cycle signage.
And the bus stop south of the Hempton Lane junction will be converted to a limited waiting layby to allow parents and carers to drop off and pick up their children at Ambourne Nursery if their car park is full. A new bus stop will be installed north of Hempton Lane junction.
The bus services which will benefit from the new lane are:
