Abandoned vehicles

We can remove abandoned vehicles if:
  • They have no valid tax disc; and
  • The owner is unknown; and
  • They are on public roads.

We issue enforcement notices before removing vehicles, unless it is the police who have asked us to remove it.

Where we cannot help

  • If a vehicle has been abandoned on private property. This is the landowner's responsibility.
  • If a vehicle has no tax disc, it is not necessarily abandoned. We have no power to remove untaxed vehicles that have not been abandoned. Please report any tax disc offences to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) on 0800 032 5202

Parked vehicles causing a danger

If a vehicle is badly parked, or has been in the same position for some time, it may not necessarily have been abandoned. We cannot act in such cases. If, however, it is dangerous, please report it to the police.
