Street cleansing standards
- We will carry out cleansing activities in accordance with the standards set in the government's code of practice on litter and refuse
- We will remove fly-tipped waste from council-maintained highway and public open space within three working days
- We will remove dead animals from the highway within one working day of notification
- We will mechanically sweep the channels of kerbed roads at least every two months
- We will mechanically sweep unkerbed roads on an as-required basis
- We will report defective highway drains that cannot be cleared by routine cleansing to the Highways Maintenance Team on a weekly basis
- Public toilets will be cleaned at least once a day every day they are available for use
- A target response time of two hours for the removal of drugs-related litter between the hours of 7.30am to 10pm.
- We will share information on drugs-related litter with the Drug Action Team on a quarterly basis
- We will undertake an annual weed control programme to ensure that at least 80% of streets are free from significant weed growth
- We will replace damaged dog waste bins within five working days of receiving notification from the dog wardens
- We will carry out a survey of public satisfaction with the standard of street cleanliness every three years
- We will remove fly posting and graffiti from council-maintained property within three working days of notification
- We will monitor the cleanliness of highways by undertaking a minimum of 900 inspections per annum
- We will monitor street cleansing activities in accordance with agreed procedures to ensure compliance with the service level agreement
