 Bus

Approximately 20% of bus stops in South Gloucestershire have raised boarders to assist people boarding and alighting buses. This proportion will increase by a further 10% with the delivery of schemes in the Greater Bristol Bus Network.
As part of the delivery of the Joint Local Transport Plan, other principal bus stops will gain raised boarders resourced from the Capital Programme. Opportunities are also taken to secure developer funding for infrastructure improvements where appropriate.

A total of 21 bus services are currently operated with accessible vehicles throughout the week:

Community Transport

All vehicles operated by the three community transport groups in the district are accessible.

Taxis

It is not currently possible to accurately identify the number of wheel chair accessible Hackney Carriage or Private Hire vehicles licensed in South Gloucestershire. Development works are planned for the database used by licensing and this will enable the recording of such vehicles. We will then be able to quantify numbers accurately.

Additionally, we await the results of a National Consultation on accessibility for Hackney Carriage and Private Hire vehicles. When the results are available a report will be prepared for Licensing, Regulatory and General Purposes Committee.

Travel Buddies

The South Gloucestershire Learning Difficulties Partnership Board (LDPB) has developed a scheme that enables people with LD become more confident in using public transport by pairing up service users with 'Travel Buddies' who accompany them on their journeys. Currently, buddies are people who do not have LD, but Filton College is running a course for people with LD to train them in becoming buddies themselves.
