If you have a change in your circumstances you must tell us immediately and provide proof where possible.
Types of changes are:
- Change of address (you can fill out a change of address form which you can get from us)
- Rent goes up or down
- People move in or out of your home
- Your income or savings change, or that of another adult in your household, including your partner (if you have one)
If you do not tell us about a change in your circumstances within 1 month of the change occurring, you may lose out on benefit that you are entitled to or we could ask you to pay back money that you weren’t entitled to.
When you tell us that your circumstances have changed we may suspend your Benefit. We will write to you and advise you. We may also request further supporting evidence.
We may suspend your Benefit payments from a date in the future, if we are aware that your circumstances will change and your Benefit entitlement will be affected. We will write to you and tell you the date your payments will be suspended from.
If you are on Income Support, Jobseekers Allowance (income based) or employment & Support Allowance you must tell the Department for Work and Pensions that your circumstances have changed.
If you are on Pension Credit you need to tell the Pension Service that your circumstances have changed before you tell us. The Pension Service will then notify us of any changes in your pension credit entitlement.
