Drinking water

Most drinking water is supplied through a water supply company. In South Gloucestershire this is mainly Bristol Water (0845 702 3797) except for a few houses in the north of the area, which are supplied by Severn Trent (0800 783 4444).

It is also possible to have a private supply. Often found in rural areas, and on single properties, a private supply can take the form of a well, boreholes or spring.

If you have any concerns about mains drinking water quality or leaks, you should contact the water company that bills the consumer. Chemical or biological contamination should be immediately reported to the water company.

Any concerns about the quality of a private drinking water supply should be referred to Environmental Services. The council can check a private water supply for safety but there are a number of charges that can apply.
