Yate heritage centre

Come and discover the rich history and culture of Yate, on display in our two heritage galleries! There’s a host of other events and activities for the whole community too.

The centre was once a stable block for the White Lion, a busy coaching inn during the 19th century. Now, it has exhibitions in the lower gallery devoted to local history and art works produced by local people. They change regularly – check the local press for details. Our upper gallery gives visitors a flavour of the area's history and the work of local history societies.

Heritage resource centre

All visitors, researchers and schools are welcome to use the centre's extensive collection, covering a wide range of documents, photographs and journals relating to local and family history. The centre also now houses the Yate District Oral History Project collections.

You can access historical information on computers in the upper gallery, or use the historical archives housed in the heritage workroom.
