Monitoring Transport

We monitor travel patterns and traffic flows within South Gloucestershire and for the West of England Partnership, which is made up from Bristol, BANES, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.

We monitor traffic flows and transportation patterns including measuring speed, type and amount of traffic.

The different types of monitoring we do are:

• Automatic traffic counts
• Manual classified counts
• Speed radar surveys
• Pedestrian surveys
• Cycle count surveys
• Journey time surveys
• Roadside interviews
• Registration surveys
• Rail surveys
• Bus surveys
• Car occupancy survey
• Postcard surveys
• Video surveys (commissioned)
• Queues

We can supply consultants and developers with data and oversee the monitoring of the Joint Local Transport Plan targets and indicators.

Why collect data?

  • Identify trends
  • Assess changes in behaviour
  • Assess the impacts of new devlopments and congestion
  • Contributing to funding bids for transport improvements
  • Measure progress towards acheiving targets
  • Statutory requirements
