Air quality, contaminated land, industrial installations and other pollution control measures are the responsibility of the Environmental Protection (Specialist) Team. Our standards and level of service:
- To respond to enquiries and requests for service - 95 per cent within five working days, to respond to approx. 400 enquiries/requests per year
- To complete 80 per cent of investigations within 12 weeks
- To inspect 95 per cent of industrial installations in line with Protocol II, to carry out 92 inspections in 2004/05
- To maintain public registers and update within five working days
- To respond immediately to major pollution incidents
Costs
The cost of the Environmental Protection (Specialist) service in 2004/05 was £218,390. It included £49,605 in fees. These related mainly to industrial pollution control, but £1,596 of it came from our contaminated land search information service. This equates to £1.90 per household.
