Even if all our greenhouse gas emissions were to cease tomorrow, the legacy of past greenhouse gas emissions will still result in changes in our weather and climate. We are expecting progressively warmer, wetter winters, hotter, drier summers, and more extreme weather events.
Further information on how the climate is expected to change in UK over the coming decades can be found on the Government’s UK Climate Projections WebPages (see link in 'Other Websites' section to the right hand side of this WebPage).
South Gloucestershire Council and its partners have undertaken an assessment of the risks and opportunities from a changing climate in South Gloucestershire. Working groups were established to assess risks and opportunities in relation to four key areas:
• Infrastructure and buildings
• Health
• Natural environment
• Economy
The results of this risk assessment exercise can be viewed via the 'read more' box on the right of this page - see 'Comprehensive Risk Assessment - Summary of Agreed Risk Ratings'.
Work is underway to help increase the resilience of the local area to potential changes in weather and climate.
The Government has published information on what you can do to prepare for potential changes in our weather and climate (see link in 'Other Websites' section to the right hand side of this WebPage).
