Drivers - tips for driving

Because of their size, motorcycles can be difficult to see and the need to be as vigilant for motorcycles and to 'Think Bike!' is more important than ever.

When pulling out of a side road or turning right across traffic, look and look again and....Think Bike!

Here are some situations for you to be aware of so that you do not inadvertently put a motorcyclist at risk:

  • At junctions
  • When overtaking
  • When parked

General driving tips

  • Do not use your mobile telephone - even hands-free mobiles will distract you
  • Remember that whilst motorcycles are very manoeuvrable, on a wet road it is difficult to safely swerve or brake hard to avoid a car suddenly pulling out
  • Do not park close to junctions - not even for a short period because you restrict the view of riders and drivers trying to emerge
  • We are all road users in one way or another. Be patient, be courteous and enjoy your driving
